HelioStudy ("we", "us") is a study app run by an independent developer in Australia. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and the choices you have. Contact us any time at .

The short version

• You can use HelioStudy without an account. Then everything stays on your device and we never see it.
• If you make an account, we store your email and, when you back up or sync, a copy of your study data.
• Sharing study totals for analytics is optional and off unless you turn it on.
• No ads, no selling your information, no tracking scripts.
• You can delete your account, and its cloud data, yourself at any time.

Using HelioStudy without an account

Your decks, quizzes, notes, tasks, stats, points and settings are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They aren't sent to us. Clearing your browser data for this site deletes them, so use Settings, then Back up my data, if you want a copy. Opening HelioStudy doesn't load anything from other companies, apart from our host, Cloudflare, which needs your IP address to deliver the page.

What we collect if you create an account

• Account details: your email address, when you signed up, and the choices you made at sign-up (agreeing to the terms, and whether you share study totals). Your password is handled by our login provider, Supabase, and stored in a form we can't read.
• Your study data: when you press Back up to cloud, or automatically if you have Plus sync, we store a copy of the data described above, including your review history and how long you took on each card and question. This is what lets you restore it or use it on another device.
• Optional study totals: only if you turn on "Share my study totals", we record your total minutes studied, your number of cards, and when you were last active. We use these to understand how HelioStudy is used overall. Turn it off and we delete those figures.
• Plus subscriptions: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your plan, whether it's active or on trial, its renewal date, and a Stripe customer ID. We never receive or store your card details.
• AI writing: if you choose "Write cards with AI", the notes or images you selected are sent through our server to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write the cards, and are not stored by us. We keep a count of how many times you've used it this month.

"Find cards in my notes", and any files you drop in, are processed on your device and not uploaded unless you choose AI writing.

Why we use it

To run your account, back up and sync your data, process payments, apply monthly allowances, answer support requests, keep the service secure, and meet legal obligations. If you opt in, we also use your study totals to improve HelioStudy. We don't use your information for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't build marketing profiles. We won't send you marketing emails unless you ask for them.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that run HelioStudy, and only for that purpose:

• Supabase: login and database. Your account and cloud data are stored in Australia.
• Stripe: payments, if you subscribe.
• Anthropic: AI writing, only for the content you choose to send.
• Cloudflare: hosting and delivering the website.
• cdnjs and jsDelivr: deliver helper code (for sign-in, maths formatting and file import) when you use those features. They see your IP address but none of your study data.

Some of these providers are based in, or may process information in, the United States and other countries. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Children

You need to be 13 or older to create an account. If you're under 18, please check with a parent or guardian first, and they'll need to handle any Plus purchase. Anyone can use HelioStudy without an account, which keeps everything on their own device. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we'll delete it. Parents can contact us about their child's account at any time.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and cloud data until you delete your account, then remove it. Copies can remain in our providers' routine backups for a short time before being overwritten. Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires, generally five years in Australia.

Your choices and rights

• See and download your data with Settings, then Back up my data.
• Change your study data in the app at any time.
• Turn study-total sharing on or off in your account panel.
• Delete your account and cloud data with Delete my account in the account panel.
• Ask us for a copy of what we hold, or to correct it, by email.

If you have a privacy complaint, contact us first and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Security

The site uses HTTPS. Each account can only read its own data, enforced by the database itself, and owner access is limited and checked on the server. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you.

Cookies and local storage

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. HelioStudy uses your browser's local storage to save your work, and Supabase stores a sign-in token there if you're signed in. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout pages.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For significant changes, we'll tell you in the app before they apply.

Using HelioStudy

You need to be 13 or older to create an account, and if you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission. Keep your login details to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.

Your content

Your decks, quizzes and notes belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them only so we can provide HelioStudy to you, for example backing them up and syncing them. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to use, or anything illegal or harmful.

Things you can't do

Don't try to break, overload or get unauthorised access to HelioStudy or other people's accounts, don't use it to harass anyone, and don't resell it.

AI-written cards

AI can make mistakes. Check every AI-written card against your own notes before relying on it. You're responsible for what you choose to save and study.

HelioStudy Plus

• The price, billing period and any free trial are shown before you subscribe.
• Plus renews automatically until you cancel. Before a free trial ends we email you a reminder.
• You can cancel online at any time in the billing portal. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
• We'll tell you in advance before any price change applies to you.

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including any rights to a remedy or refund if the service has a major problem.

The service

We work to keep HelioStudy running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free, so keep backups of anything important. We may improve or change features over time. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, such as a missed study session.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
